Aug. 2, 2008 - Pennsylvania Man Shoots And
Kills Two At Former Job
BRISTOL, Pa (CBS)
A former employee surrendered to police after a shooting at a Bucks County
business that left two people dead Friday afternoon, CBS station KYW-TV
in Philadelphia reports.
Police were
called to Simon & Schuster on the 2200 block of Radcliffe Street after
reports of gunfire at about 3:30 p.m. Authorities said a disgruntled former
employee, identified as 32-year-old Robert Diamond, opened fire on workers
during a shift change at the business.
The Bucks
County District Attorney's office said Diamond, armed with a ..40 caliber
weapon, opened fire on 46-year-old Angel Guadalupe of Levittown, who was
driving in a white SUV at the time. As the vehicle stopped, Guadalupe
fell to the pavement and Diamond approached him and "fired shots
until he wasn't moving anymore."
Authorities
said Diamond's attention was turned to a former co-worker, 52-year-old
Reginald Woodson of Willingboro. Woodson was shot multiple times in the
back while trying to flee the scene. He was airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital
where he was later pronounced dead. Officials said Diamond had previously
worked with Woodson, but did not know Guadalupe. A spokesperson for Simon
& Schuster said Diamond was let go in April due to absenteeism. Diamond
told authorities he was often harassed by his co-workers and just stopped
going to work.
A spokesperson
for Simon & Schuster released a statement in light of the deadly incident
that read:
"Everyone
at Simon & Schuster is deeply saddened by this terrible tragedy. Our
thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims, and to all
of our colleagues at our Bristol, Pennsylvania facility."
Simon &
Schuster is a division of the CBS Corporation.
Workers with
the night shift were sent home Friday and officials said grief counselors
will be on hand. Diamond has been charged with two counts of first degree
murder. He is expected to be arraigned.
